I've completed the build of the drone since the last update and now it's come to the first test flight, which you can see in this cinematic masterpiece:
It flew for a little longer than this, but could have gone better
Progress made
I've powered all the parts of the drone, including the flight controller and the Pi Model 3B - this model has integrated WiFi, so is ideal for this project. I roughly configured the flight controller (Multiwii Crius v2), loading the firmware and setting the PIDs - but based off the test flight this still needs some work. I've then worked on the config of the Pi, largely basing it currently off Adam Lebon's project, so far, which I will rewrite/rework for my project.
A few more issues...
- The controls need some finessing - some of the variables in the flight controller can be tweaked to improve the stability and I need to make sure it's in altitude hold mode, not acro mode
- The main project that is similar to this, is written by Adam le Bon - who is French, which makes reading some of the code interesting...
- The weather has been so bad recently that this small window was my first chance to fly, just as the light was fading
